    Breast milk is a complex biological system. And it's not easy to study.

    It's a constantly-changing living fluid. Varying mom to mom, hour to hour, month to month. Milk changes based on how it's expressed and how it's stored. And this all matters when we're trying to study milk's biology in a lab.

    The Pause Paradox.

    Freezing isn't a pause button. Milk samples change over time, and the factors you're studying may be impacted by storage method.

    The Routine Variable.

    Every donor has her own pumping routine. Expression method, collection timing, container material, pump hygiene, and more. They all matter.

    The Consensus Gap.

    Apples-to-apples comparisons don't exist with breast milk. Without consensus on how samples are collected, comparing results across labs is challenging.
